iPhone Hack Attack Found Lasting 2 Years!

I don’t know how many of you use iPhones but I do and I was horrified

to read of a sustained hacking attack that has been going on for over two years.

Google’s Threat Analysis Team (TAG) came across a small number of hacked websites that were being used in ‘watering hole’ attacks on visitors using iPhones. Watering hole attacks are where the browsing patterns of particular groups are observed in order to lay a trap e.g. hack a website that the particular group visits.

The TAG team identified twelve separate security flaws, mostly bugs within the Safari default web browser on Apple products. They say that the release of security update iOS 12.1.4 on 7th February this year successfully dealt with the problems.

Nevertheless, all businesses that use Apple devices must be worried that the hack had been going on for so long before being discovered. Apple promote their products as having strong security features, offering safety from concerns about viruses and hacking.

If you have an iPhone, ensure it is running the latest version of iOS. Go to ‘Settings’, tap ‘General’ and search under ‘Software Update’ to check you have 12.1.4 running.
