Traditionally, the New Year is the time for making resolutions to change your lifestyle for the better, whether it is eating less, exercising more or giving up smoking. Unfortunately, all too often these good intentions have fallen by the wayside by the end of January.

In marketing, the start of the New Year is an excellent time to reflect on how you do things and consider where improvements can be made. By keeping things smart and simple, these resolutions are ones that can be kept and can help your business grow:

• Update your appearance. People often take this opportunity to change their hairstyle or update their wardrobe. In marketing terms, some simple updates can breathe new life into your business. Think about changing your branding, for example, or consider new areas to advertise in.

• Climb out of the rut. A New Year demands a new approach and it is the same in marketing. Is your stationery ready for an overhaul? If stocks of it are running low then this is the perfect opportunity to revitalise it.

• Get organised. Are you really doing things as effectively as you possibly can? These days we have more data available to us than ever before so it pays to make sure it is organised efficiently.

• Think mobile. More and more people are conducting business and buying goods and services on their mobile devices, be it smartphone or tablet. Plenty of people will have received one as a gift at Xmas. Make sure your website is easily read on mobile devices.
